Tough Questions

Here are a few questions from Gabrielle and Stephanie's first-year group.
We want to challenge members to seek answers in scripture and pray about their questions.
If you can help find answers for any of these feel free to post your response as a comment.

• Who is the Holy Spirit?
• Is it possible to want the “fattened calf” and still follow God? Do we have to give up everything? What is preventing us from giving up everything? (ex. fear that God won’t provide, pride, etc.)
• What is the relationship between pre-destination and free will?
• Why do you believe the Bible? Where does the authority of Scripture come from? What is the word of God? Scripture changes lives; it doesn’t return void
• What makes a human a human?
• What is spiritual warfare? Who is the devil?
• Why is it easier for some to know?
• How to get over past attachments?
• Why doesn’t prayer guarantee answers?
• What does it mean that Jesus died for us?

Why doesn't prayer guarantee answers?

Consider the following situation. There's a woman who's barren. She really wants to have a kid though. She asks God for the kid but nothing happens. After many years, she is moved to ask the Lord again for a kid. But this time it's a little different. She has accepted her barren state over the years but still longs to do that which God Himself likes to do -- make others in our own image. She even vows to the Lord to give Him the child. The Lord answers her prayer and gives her a child that would grow to be one of the most righteous men in history -- a man devoted to God before he was born. For the sake of many people, it was wise of the Lord not to answer the first prayers.

"You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."
- James 4:2b-3
